ABOUT THETA CHAPTER

ABOUT THETA CHAPTER

OUR HERSTORY

In the Spring of 1998, six dedicated women saw a need for an organization that would exemplify professionalism, Sisterhood, and educate the Stony Brook community and the community at large. Through many trials and tribulations, overcoming adversity and defeat, on April 17, 1998 "Nacimiento" crossed over into the Radiant light.

This would not have been possible without the help of the Sister from Epsilon Chapter at Long Island University, C.W. Post campus and for that they are forever grateful. Theta Chapter will continue to grow exemplifying the goals, beliefs, and convictions held by Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is very involved with educating the community and affecting change.

We do this through various methods, including:

Community Service

Community/Political Activism

Scholarship/Mentorship Programs

Reach for the Gold Scholarship

Madrinas Program

Social/Cultural Programming

As of Spring 2017, Theta Chapter consists of more than 60 sisters.

CHAPTER PHILANTHROPY

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

The Chartering Members of Theta Chapter adopted Domestic Violence Awareness as their mission because in the wake of this social catastrophe the issue was rarely discussed and many incidences of violence on campus had been virtually ignored.  Whether it had been a mother or father, a sister or brother, an aunt or uncle, or even a friend; the sisters of Theta Chapter had personally witnessed and been affected by Domestic Violence.

Every year Theta Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has a Domestic Violence Awareness Banquet. This event raises awareness on this topic and has received various accolades due to its impact that it has had on the Stony Brook Community and the community at large. Each year a different aspect of this tragic practice is targeted and all profits from this event are donated to a different charity.

To date, Theta Chapter has donated over $10,000 to charities in Long Island.
